The Cat Bandit

The Hot Dog

Mom had a hot dog.
She put it on a shelf.
The hot dog smelled good.
The smell floated away.

The cat bandit sat outside.
He wanted a snack.
Then he smelled the hot dog!
Sniff, sniff, sniff!

The cat bandit ran inside.
He saw the hot dog.
He jumped on a bench.
He jumped on the TV.
Then he made a big jump.
He landed on the shelf!

Munch, munch, munch.
The hot dog was gone.

The Chicken Nugget

Hank put his dish in the sink.
A hot chicken nugget was on it.
The smell drifted into the other room.

The cat bandit was sleeping.
But he could still smell it!
Sniff, sniff, sniff!

He jumped up.
He saw the nugget in the sink.
He thought of a plan.

He got some boxes.
He stacked them up, biggest by the sink.
He ran and hopped up the boxes!

Munch, munch, munch.
The chicken nugget was gone.

The Snack Mix

Beth left a basket of snack mix on a shelf.
The cat bandit wanted it.
But how could he get it?

He found some grilling tongs.
He put them on the rug.
He got some rocks too.

He put a rock on one end.
He pressed down the other end with his leg.
Then he let go!

The rock went flying.
It missed the basket.
He tried again and again.

On the seventh try, the rock hit the basket!
It fell on the rug.
Snack mix went everywhere.

Chomp, chomp, chomp.
The snack mix was gone.

The Ham

Mom left a ham in a big pan.
The cat bandit smelled it.
He looked for the ham.
He found it up high.
How could he reach it?

He got a belt.
He got a strong magnet.
He stuck the magnet to the belt.

He swung the belt at the pan.
Clang! The magnet stuck to the pan!

He pulled and pulled.
Tug, tug, tug!
The pan slid off and fell.

Munch, munch, munch.
The ham was gone.

The Fish

Mom hung a fish on a string.
The cat bandit smelled it.
He ran to look.
He saw the fish hanging up high.
He thought of a plan.

He got Mom's glasses.
He put them in the sun.
The sun shined through the glass.
He moved the glasses just right.

The sun's light hit the string.
The string got hot.
The wax on the string melted.

Rip! The fish fell down.

Munch, munch, munch.
The fish was gone.

The Milk

Beth left a glass of milk on the deck.
It was too high for the cat bandit.
He looked around.

He saw a long string.
Wet clothes were hanging on it.
He smiled.

He got Dad's belt.
He climbed on top of the shed.
He swung the belt over the string.
Then he jumped and held on!

Whiz! He zipped along the string.
Pop! He knocked off the socks.
Pop! He knocked off the pants.
Thwack! He knocked off the jacket.

He zipped past the milk.
He kicked the cup with his leg.
Crash! The milk spilled.

Lap, lap, lap.
The milk was gone.

The Chips

Mom put a bag of chips on a high shelf.
"The cat can't reach that," she said.
But the cat bandit had a plan.

He got a log, a plank, and a rock.
He set up a seesaw.
He sat on one end.

He dropped the rock on the other end.
Smack! The rock hit the plank.
The cat bandit popped up into the air!

He did a flip.
He landed right on the shelf!
He cut open the bag.

Crunch, crunch, crunch.
The chips were gone.

The Catfish

Dad caught a big catfish.
He put it in a bucket.
He locked the bucket in the shed.
"This lock will stop the cat!" he said.

But the cat bandit smelled the fish.
He went to the shed.
It was locked.
He would not give up.

He tied a belt to the lock.
He pulled and pulled.
The shed did not move.

He asked a dog to help.
They both pulled.
Still, the shed did not move.

He asked a pig to help too.
The cat, the dog, and the pig all pulled together.
The shed began to tilt!

Wham! The shed fell down.

Munch, munch, munch.
The catfish was gone.
