The sun is a big light.
It is the biggest light for Earth.

The sun makes light.
The sun makes heat too.

Light has energy.
Energy means power to do things.

Light moves in waves.
Waves can be long.
Waves can be short.

Light moves very fast.
It goes 186,000 miles every second.
That is in a vacuum.
A vacuum is empty space.

Light is so fast, it is hard to imagine.
No car goes that fast.
No plane goes that fast.
Not even a rocket!

Some light waves we can see.
Some light waves we cannot see.
This depends on the wave's length.

Red light has long waves.
We can see red light.
Violet light has short waves.
We can see violet too.
Short waves have more energy.

The sun makes white light.
You may think white light has no color.
But that is not true!

White light has all colors in it.
It has every color of the rainbow.
All those colors are hiding inside white light.

The sun looks yellow to us.
This is because of the sky.
There is a little more yellow light than other colors.
That is why the sun looks yellow.

But the sun's light has all colors.
Red, blue, green, and more.
They are all part of the sun's light.
